Tomorrow's Readings
Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him!
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
from men by your hand, O Lord,
from men of the world whose portion is in this life.
You fill their womb with treasure;
they are satisfied with children,
and they leave their abundance to their infants.
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
(Psalm 17:13-15)
I have heard it said that believers are so spiritually minded that they're no earthly good. But it begs the question: what is really important in life? David answers for us: some day we will see the face of God. Do we hope for something other than this? If we do, then we are deceived with an earthly vanity. This is not to say that we should not seek excellence and depth in the affairs of our earthly lives; but it is the hope of the face of God that awakens us to the details and possibilities of this life. For God is the ultimate reality, and the true knowledge of him is the ultimate life. When we enter into our eternal existence in the radiance of his presence, it shall be as if we had awakened from a dream. By comparison, all else is vapor.
As another has said, Life is a dream from which all must wake.

Which pill do I take...red or blue? ;-)
You make great points here. I often pinch myself and wonder what it would be like to awaken in the presence of God. We so often get caught up in awakening each day to our daily, earthly routine. Yet one day, we will step into his presence, into our ultimate state. Thanks be to God through Christ we will be welcomed as "good and faithful servants".
